Where girls read for fun
Our first meeting on Detroit’s east side was a dream! We met the owner of Smoothie Queen, made our own smoothies, and learned everything we needed to know about Progressionista! Our new read is One Day and One Amazing Morning on Orange Street by Joanne Rocklin.
Our January 2019 Detroit East Progressionista is Ayanna Turner, owner of Smoothie Queen, a mobile smoothie company that prides itself on healthy drinks in a convenient package! Her journey toward entrepreneurship and creating a healthier lifestyle was an inspiration to all of the girls who attended! A new group of girls with the beaming spirit of girl power and literacy! What is better than that? Thanks to the Awesome Foundation for making this east side group possible.

Our fifth meeting this school year was newsworthy! After hearing from a local journalist, we came up with our own questions to interview each other and developed our own news stories! This month's read is Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Smart Miss Know-It-All by Rachel Renée Russell.
Our January 2019 Progressionista is Kat Stafford, Detroit Free Press journalist. She shared with us her amazing journey toward becoming a journalist at one of the top publications in the nation! We loved her memories from being a student in Detroit and her passion for reporting and writing! |
